Milestone for local church as it celebrates the burning of the mortgage
The Rt. Rev. Royal U. Grote Bishop of the Diocese of Mid-America of
the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC) will hold a special church service
celebrating a local church?s mortgage payoff of $170 thousand in less
than 10 years.
Providence REC at 1201 Morgan Avenue is celebrating the congregations
paying off the church mortgage. To mark this momentous occasion, The
Rt. Rev. Royal U. Grote Bishop of the Diocese of Mid-America of the
Reformed Episcopal Church will officiate at a special Church
Consecration Service, Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
What might seem to some to be a monumental achievement in an economic
down turn, a local church has managed to pay off the mortgage. Through
the faithful giving of the congregation, Providence REC has paid off a
mortgage of $170 thousand in less than 10 years.
According to Reverend Benjamin Bernier, Rector for the Church, this
accomplishment ?is a sign of God's mercy and grace and a good example
to follow. In good or bad times the principles guiding our conduct
should always be the same, and this would lead us into a path of
fiscal responsibility, getting out of debt and not living beyond our
means.
Also according to Reverend Bernier, ?The consecration of a Church
building is a special and unique occasion in which the Bishop of the
church is invited to celebrate a solemn ceremony of dedication of a
building setting it apart as a place exclusively devoted for the true
and spiritual worship of God. This reminds us of the importance of
consecration of our whole lives in the service of God, as well as the
need to separate spaces, times, and material means for the specific
purpose of honoring God which is the ultimate purpose of human life.?
The public is invited to attend.
